From Concordia to Coaching History: the success story of Old Scholar Matt Cox

Sunday 14 Sept

When Concordia 女女视频 College Old Scholar Matt Cox (Class of 2014) led the Toowoomba Mountaineers Women鈥檚 team to their first State League title in 50 years, it was more than just a sporting victory. It was the continuation of a journey that began at Concordia, where values of resilience, leadership and community first started.

Matt, now the Community and Development Officer for Toowoomba Basketball and coach of the Queensland State League Division 1 Women鈥檚 Team, said that while winning the title was a career highlight, the foundations of his leadership were laid years ago.

鈥淐oncordia taught me to step up, to think differently and to back myself,鈥 Mr Cox said.

鈥淭he encouragement I had from teachers and peers gave me the confidence to pursue basketball seriously and eventually to lead others.鈥

Matt particularly remembers the unique outdoor education program at Ballon, describing it as a formative experience.

鈥淏allon made me question what life is about. It challenged me, but it also showed me the strength that comes from teamwork and perseverance,鈥 he said.

Concordia鈥檚 Head of College Anton Prinsloo said Matt鈥檚 story highlights the impact of a Concordia education.

鈥淢att鈥檚 success as a coach and community leader shows how learning at Concordia reaches far beyond the classroom,鈥 Mr Prinsloo said.

鈥淲e鈥檙e proud that the experiences he had here helped prepare him not only to chase his own dreams, but also to inspire others.鈥

For Matt, the message to today鈥檚 Concordia 女女视频 College students is simple.

鈥淎lways chase your dreams and don鈥檛 let anyone tell you to be anything other than yourself.鈥
